Contact us
NIKU offers antiquarian project follow-up for building maintenance and restoration. We perform condition assessments of buildings and structures in wood and masonry, map the degree of damage, and recommend measures. Further, we document the individual building component’s properties, contribution, and integration in the construction. NIKU also carries out building archeological investigations and has special expertise in traditional lime mortars.
Climate change, in the form of more precipitation and wind, higher temperatures, as well as increased occurrences of harmful fungi and insect attacks, leads to increased strain on buildings. Interventions for increased energy efficiency, such as additional insulation and solar panels, have an impact on load bearing capacities, moisture transport, and ventilation in buildings. Our expertise in building materials, degradation factors, building physics, and -statics, provides a good knowledge base when measures are to be carried out on buildings and structures in wood and masonry.
