Technical and Industrial Cultural Heritage

NIKU provides documentation and consultancy services related to the rehabilitation and reuse of technical and industrial cultural heritage monuments

Technical and industrial cultural heritage are remnants of industrial activity of historical, technological, social, architectural or scientific value.

These include many different types of cultural monument, such as buildings, production lines, machinery, infrastructure, housing, religious edifices, schools, green spaces, etc. They represent important knowledge about the development of Norwegian industry. Structural changes in society and production life have led to the decommissioning of many technical and industrial facilities. When operations cease, many technical and industrial facilities are left empty and fall into disrepair.

NIKU offers advice on the preservation and reclamation of historic industrial facilities, providing space for new business and activities.
