Kristin Kausland has worked as an independent paintings conservator and for institutions such as RCE in the Netherlands and the Munch Museum in Oslo, as well as having teaching responsibilities in conservation studies at the University of Oslo. In 2017 she gained a PhD in conservation from the University of Oslo exploring the provenances of imported late medieval altarpieces in Norway.

Kristin was recently awarded a post doctorate stipend from the Research Council of Norway, co-funded by the FP7 Marie Curie COFUND action of the European Union. The post doc research will be undertaken at HKI and Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) in the period 2018-2021.

Research interests

Kristin’s research interests are focused on artistic techniques in general and medieval and early modern painting and polychromy in particular. She is interested in questions of attribution, workshop organisation, regional traditions and the trade of artists’ materials, all of which are explored in her post doc project DATILAS, Dusting the Dusk of the Dark Ages.
