The project was launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Norwegian ratification of the World Heritage Convention. Going through the archival material from Norwegian governmental archives and the UNESCO archive we are exploring Norway’s first tenure (1983-89) on the governing body of the World Heritage Convention.

We are in particular interested in exploring the collaborative relationship between the Norwegian the diplomatic corps and the heritage bureaucracy and whether or not Norway’s representation on the committee differed for other delegations.

The work is conducted by Herdis Hølleland and Jessica Phelps.
