Cultural Heritage Value Assessment of Nesoddtangen School and Community Center

NIKU has carried out an assessment of the cultural heritage value of Nesoddtangen School and Community Center from a local and regional perspective.

The school and community center were built in 1960-64 as an integrated multifunctional building. The combination of school – community center – welfare services was encouraged by state authorities at the time.

Architectural qualities are related to volume construction, placement in the landscape, facade composition, use of materials, and detailing. Overall, the building complex with its associated outdoor areas has high local value.

The value lies not least in the social significance the building complex has and has had in the local community. Throughout its lifetime, the building has proven to be solid and adaptable to new requirements, and it will also be possible to adapt it to changing needs in the future.
