Cultural-historical value assessment of Vågan Town Hall

NIKU has conducted a cultural-historical value assessment of Vågan Town Hall on behalf of Vågan Municipality.

The assessment is based on an inspection as well as available drawings, historical photos, and written sources. Particular emphasis has been placed on authenticity, architectural, and building historical value.

Vågan Town Hall consists of three interconnected volumes built in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1970s. NIKU’s report is intended to serve as a knowledge base for ongoing planning work. The municipality’s goal is to develop a new town hall as a combination of existing and new building structures.

All of the three construction phases have preservation value, which can be enhanced through a rehabilitation that restores the architecture and refines the character and qualities that the buildings originally had, while adapting the buildings to today’s requirements for functionality and comfort.
