Decentralisation of Cultural Heritage Management

At present there is a political goal to decentralise cultural heritage management by moving responsibility to regional and local level in order to bring decision-making closer to those affected.

The overall aim of the project is to produce knowledge about ways to increase decentralisation and public participation as means of integrating cultural heritage as resource in management and societal development.

One of our study cases is the local development project Vardø Restored that aims at revitalizing the city’s built cultural heritage by supporting restoration and commercial activities. Vardø Restored is run by public and private cooperation, and with financial support from the government.
