Registration of cultural heritage related to timber floating, Kongsberg

Log driving in the river Numedalslågen has been important for several centuries, both for timber export and for timber used at the Silver Works in Kongsberg. The log driving in the river ceased in 1979, but clear traces of the activity are still preserved.

On behalf of Kongsberg municipality, NIKU has registered cultural heritage sites related to the log driving operations along a stretch of the river. The background for the assignment is that the municipality wants a management plan to be prepared for the log driving heritage, and that a cultural heritage trail along the river may also be planned later.

The assignment included photographing, mapping, and describing objects related to the log driving operations
